SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)

Lyne and Longcross C of E (Aided) Primary School is an inclusive school where each individual is valued.  We work to ensure that pupils are included in all aspects of learning and school life.  We aim to provide a high standard of education which develops and inspires all our children. Our SENCo is Mrs Jones and we have an appointed SEND Governor, Barbara Payne. The SENCo works Monday-Wednesdays and can be contacted by emailing senco@lyne.surrey.sch.uk and SEND Governor can be contacted via the school office.

Children sometimes experience difficulties and require additional support to meet their needs or improve their learning.  The decision to put this in place is made by the school, following discussion with parents, and is based on a variety of factors including academic progress and assessments carried out by teaching staff or other professionals.  Occasionally children may need additional support to ensure that they have a smooth transition or they may require specific support when going through a significant change in their lives. We always involve parents/carers in these decisions and are keen to work in partnership with families as we believe this results in the best outcomes for children.

Support is planned by school staff and, when appropriate, by external agencies.  This would be documented in Individual SEND Support Plans and shared with parents/carers in meetings.

We hold meetings to discuss provision and Mrs Jones is available for individual appointments. We value the partnership between home and school and encourage parents to share concerns or information as soon as a need arises.

The range of provision and support available to identified children is dependent on budgetary constraints and policy review, and so may be subject to change.

Any document available on this website is also available as a free paper copy from the school office. Please contact the school office (01932 872327) or info@lyne.surrey.sch.uk if you have any questions regarding the documents.

A parent carer guide to ordinarily available provision in schools – Surrey County Council aims to:

  • Help families understand who to talk to – who can help, when they are concerned about their child.
  • Offer advice on communicating with teachers and school staff about their child’s needs
  • Explain what Ordinarily Available Provision is and how it works alongside high quality teaching
  • Share examples of the support and strategies that schools may use
  • Clarify what additional support is available, and when a formal diagnosis or EHCP may be appropriate
  • Support families to work with schools to help their child succeed
